Frequently Asked Questions

How safe is chiropractic care?
Chiropractic is a recognised allied health profession delivered by registered chiropractors who have undertaken five years of study, two of which are a Masters degree, in an AHPRA accredited chiropractic course. Each treatment at ChiroRelief is based on a combination of the latest industry information, extensive education and training and of course, our patients’ own experiences. Chiropractic does not require medication or surgery.
What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment aims to resolve misalignments along your spine or any other joint that can cause tension, pain and stiffness throughout the body. Following initial consultations and a diagnosis, your chiropractor will apply gently targeted thrusts using their hands or specialist equipment to release tension, improve movement of that segment and bring back function. Over time, these adjustments help you to find freer motion and relief from pain and stiffness.
At ChiroRelief we also use mobilisation as a very gentle technique in bringing movement and relief, which focuses on movement over force.
Can chiropractic assist me at any age?
Chiropractic is safe and effective for people of all ages, for a variety of conditions and for preventative healthcare as you go through life. In fact, this health practice is an ideal treatment of forms of arthritis, degeneration and other older-age conditions. At ChiroRelief we offer spinal decompression, drop piece, Activator method and Accustimm adjustments, all of which provide gentle mobilisation as an alternative to manual adjustments. These techniques are ideal for those with limited mobility and highly degenerated spines in helping to restore movement to the more fragile structure we are working on.
Is chiropractic care suitable for children?
As well as being an exceptionally safe treatment for adults, chiropractic can help to address many problems with the spine, limbs and posture early on in life before they become larger problems.
Will I need a referral from my doctor?
You will not need a referral to visit ChiroRelief as we are primary health care practitioners ourselves. GPs are increasingly referring patients to us through the Enhanced Primary Care Program (EPC).
Will I feel any pain during the treatment?
In most cases you won’t feel any discomfort and in many cases treatment can provide immediate relief. Rest assured we take great care in using the gentlest technique possible to achieve the desired result.
What kind of results can I expect?
Treatment can provide immediate relief in many cases. In others it may take a few sessions to feel the full benefits, and in some chronic or severe situations it may take longer for relief to become apparent as the underlying dysfunction has been left for so long without care. Your chiropractor will take you through the expected results before treatment begins.
How long will my treatment take?
Typically a problem will not be resolved within a single treatment, and many conditions can take some time to address. Other conditions aren’t “curable” but are manageable, such as arthritis, degeneration and scoliosis, and ongoing chiropractic care can provide relief and a much-improved quality of life. Some patients come to us for regular tune-ups to maintain an optimal level of health. Ultimately every patient will require a different treatment plan, and this will be discussed in detail with you before any treatments begin.
Is there anything I need to wear or bring with me to my consultations?
We can treat most patients in their everyday clothes, minus any bulky outer layers. A small number of treatments may require you to wear a gown, which would be provided at our clinic. It’s a good idea to bring any existing X rays or imaging results to your initial consultation to help give your chiropractor the full picture of your current health and wellbeing.
How much will my treatment cost?
Your treatment will depend on the objectives you would like to achieve and any diagnostic imaging that might be useful in identifying an issue. Please call one of our clinics for further information on fees and to book your initial consultation.
